Dried Meat on Skulls

Unread postby sheddinva » Thu Mar 10, 2016 8:03 am

I have a few deadheads I had found and gotten most of the meat off but then got lazy and left some here and there. What would be the best method to remove this? I am assuming simmering or boiling to loosen it up but thought I'd check first.

The one below is the main one, I found it as is recently and want to get the dried meat off the back. He's got 14 scorable points, 10 on one side and 4 on the other. Also have his sheds from last year.

big kettle, boil it, scrape it off.

you can put soda ash in the water and that will make it come off easier.

with very little meat you can get away with just boiling it with dawn dish soap and water.

Good to know! Couple of my elk. I never cleaned up. It doesn't bother me but some people it does.

Where do you get the soda ash?

You can also get soda ash (sodium carbonate) anywhere you'd buy pool supplies. I bought some at Home Depot.
