2014 buck progression

Unread postby muddy » Wed Dec 23, 2015 1:25 pm

Sunday I finally got down to my buddies and we started putting last year's buck together. I did most of the work under his watchful eye. Little more finish work to do then let him dry. Full sneak Ohio form.

I'd love to start doing some of my bucks. Does it take a lot of tools to start doing it?

Since I use all my buddies stuff I wouldn't know, but I think if I ever go fully into it I'll buy the best stuff I can afford. I know guys that use make shift stuff and their work shows it. I think the main thing to have is a GOOD floor base that will level 2 or 3 different ways as well as go up and down. Sewing the head and tucking the eyes/mouth on the opposite side of your hand is impossible if you can't flip an rotate that form.

If you do make sure you come down for a weekend and watch him work. Crazy passion for making deer look more than awesome.

Putting it together is the fun part. Did you get to do the fleshing, shaving, splitting and turning the eyes, lips, ears? I used the same ear but when I did mine. They are slick. Anyways nice job.

You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I did all the clay, set the eyes, set the ears, fleshed the cape, tucked all the eye ducts, the mouth, etc. Had a watchful eye over me the whole time. I had big issues sewing the cape up over the back of the neck, hands just not strong enough to do it all. Cramped up and such.
