Do you guys leave your registration tags on your mounts? Is it a law?

I would assume that you need a legal tag for any rack that you have that is not a shed.
Tape em to the back in a ziplock baggie.

The law states you only need to keep the tag till the meat is consumed. My taxidermist won't allow bucks without the metal registration band and then removes it and gives back to me when I drop the buck off. I keep it till the meat is gone and then discard it. Never really thought about keeping them.

In some state's a rack with no tag is a poaching charge.

Re: Registration tags on mounts question.
From the WI regs.......
Deer carcass tagging instructions
1. Hunters must validate the appropriate deer carcass tag by slitting the date and time of kill immediately upon killing and before field dressing or moving the deer.
2. Insert a string or similar fastener through the small hole in the middle of the tag (a tab covers the hole) and attach it to the deer’s ear or antler. Hunters will need to provide their own string or similar fastener to attach the carcass tag to the deer.
3. After the deer has been tagged, it must be registered at a registration station. See the section below on deer registration. During the 2014 deer seasons, all harvested deer must be registered in the unit of kill or in an adjoining unit.
4. The carcass and registration tag must remain attached to the deer until butchering. The person who killed, tagged or obtained the deer shall retain all tags until the meat is consumed.
Doesn't say anything specifically about keeping tags for the mount after the meat is consumed so the way I understand it's not required.

Looks like you have to keep the tags until all the meat is gone. I still have meat from 2013 in my freezer. Its a dumb law.
