they're either balsam, white spruce or maybe (doubtful) black spruce

I ragged some regular brown stain then wiped clean couple times then finished with some poly

see I've always felt European mounts aren't totally natural (when just hanging on the wall), though love the looks of them, so I was thinking on trying to do a wall mount where they would sit naturally or stand that would sit on the mantle, piano, table, etc.??? Or I have a chunk of diamond willow that I could stack a bunch of mounts on in a room corner
