How to clean up Duck Mounts
I have a Black Duck and a Drake Woodie that I shot and my Dad mounted. Well he is moving and said I could have them. They are in good shape and were done right. I took them down yesterday and they need some cleaning up. He smokes and the dust and dirt is pretty thick when close up. They have not taken down and cleaned for 10 years. What do I use to clean them up and try and get them back to shape? Thanks..

Swiffer duster. Key is to be gentle at first. You can raise quite a bit afterwards using a blow dryer and compressed air. Any gentle liquid cleaning should be last followed with a blow dry.

You can also gently apply a little mineral spirits to the feathers to get some of the yellowing out from the smoke. Steer clear of the painted areas with the mineral spirits, like the legs and bill. those areas should clean up with a damp cloth.

Use a make up brushed used to apply blush. These work great to remove dust and straighten the feather groups.
