Picking out forms
When you are fortunate enough to harvest a nice trophy and take a trip to the taxidermy shop, do you let the shop pick your manakin and pose out, or do you have a favorite form manufacturer that you stick with? Personally I like working with Joe Coombs forms. Cost is a bit more, but the sculpting is usually right on. Let me know your thoughts so I can take info back to our Shop.

Re: Picking out forms
I usually pick the pose, but I never knew enough to pick a form from a MFG.

Re: Picking out forms
I picked out a Joe Meder form for the buck I shot last season. Couldn't be happier. I have my next pose already picked, just need the trophy!

Re: Picking out forms
When I 1st started mounting bucks I made sure I was picking forms and poses, but as time went by I realized that good taxidermists are also skilled artists and are better at picking both the form and the pose that best fits the animal I brought them... I now just drop the animal off and say do something cool.

Re: Picking out forms
My taxi man shows me different forms poses and usually has examples hanging on the wall to compare. I had one buck done by a hack last year. I picked out everything and he butchered it together. It was just an experiment on my part seeing the difference between a good taxi and a hack. A good taxi man will work with you taking time to be sure you are satisfied. The buck pictured is one of my favorite forms & poses. Not sure what form or anything else (a few years ago). Taxi man showed it to me, I liked it, he did it.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Pose only...
I usually have a spot picked out in the house and need it a certain way to capture the most out of the location.
