How to get mold off a bear head

Unread postby Uncle Lou » Mon Sep 30, 2013 3:10 am

I have been meaning to ask for a while, and my wife just moved my bear rug in the basement and said it has mold on the face.

How can I safely remove this from the nose area and it is spreading out a bit through the face.

Try mineral spirits.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Thanks Stanley. I had some denatured alcohol sitting next to my cutting table so tried that first, and it worked like a charm. Appreciate it.

Anyone every put any hair spray or anything around the noses to repel future mold growth. But I guess if all I have to do is wipe it off with alcohol or mineral spirits every few years, that would be OK.

Active mold growth is caused by moisture. Mold will begin growing on any surface that has been moist for at least 48 hours. The only way to prevent future mold growth is to identify and stop moisture issue. Keep indoor humidity between 30-60% and if it is on the floor make sure the floor isn't sweating and the rug absorbing condensation. Keep it dry and it won't come back!
