For me anymore if I kill it (assuming whitetail deer), I will mount it. I do the occasional mount on a plaque or euro but for the most part if I shoot it its headed to the taxidermist.

It used to be all about not spending the money: young family, tight budget, etc. Now that things have eased up a bit, going back and having some of my better memories mounted.

Moving forward, thinking about holding off on any deer that I would not deem worthy of mounting. We'll see how that works. :D

I mount everything on a plaque if smaller and only shoulder mount if it's bigger than anything I currently have on the wall.

I have enough mounts right now so can't see shoulder mounting anything under 140".

I mounted some ducks I shot in Alaska. mainly because I can't shoot them here. I don't do any other besides racks and tail fans from turkey. (stuff I can do myself). I just can't justify the cost. too much other stuff I can do with the money. if some day I shoot a buck over 140", I will mount that.

I shot a 140 inch on public opening night last season. That buck got a euro even though I have smaller on the wall. This season it's got to be 140 or bigger before I even Take my bow off the hook.

I go by size big ones get a shoulder mount, good ones get a euro, and the rest end up on plaques. When they are done and on the wall I look at them and day dream about each animal and hunt no matter what size.

If they were free I would mount them all - probably does too. I love mounts! But money is an issue so I just mount the bigger ones and the hunt plays a role in the decision as well.

Money.

I would have over a dozen whitetail mounts if I had the funds. Several gobblers and some trophy fish too...

The issue then would be wall space...

I don't have any rules yet on what I will or will not mount......any good buck on public is a trophy to me........hopefully I get a crack at a "no doubter" this year and don't have to make a tough decision.

If I shoot anything larger than what I have I will mount it. The exceptions are a rare or unique animal such as a piebald or albino, or a special or memorable hunt.

Size is the biggest factor.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
