Taxidermist just called: my fall longbeard is done!

Unread postby xpauliber » Thu Feb 21, 2013 5:57 am

I need to figure out when I can go pick it up. I love bringing new mounts home! I'll post pics when I get it.

I left right after work and went down and picked it up. Looks great!

I can't remember if I mentioned this in the Kill Zone when I originally posted the story about this bird, but my Mother was with me in the tree and she had a video camera with her. She was taping when I shot this bird, but instead of watching the turkey on the camera screen, she was just holding the camera in that direction and watching the gobbler in real life. The camera was aimed over top of the bird so you hear me whistle to get him to perk up and you hear the shot and then the arrow zips through the frame and then you can hear the impact but the bird was JUST out of the screen. It was so close to getting my first kill on camera but not quite. Still an awesome hunt and a great memory!

The taxidermist said that he could only find one flaw with the "hide" and that's where the arrow went through, the rest of the feathers and everything looked great. I saw it and said "That's not a flaw! That's my favorite part of the mount!" You can see where the Muzzy went through right at the bottom of the wing in this pic:

Here is a pic with both of my gobblers:

Right before I left, he said, "come around the corner here." I went around the corner and he gave me a sneak peek at my buck's that he's working on:

He said about 3 weeks and he should be giving me another call.

Different poses increase the cost with full strut being the most costly. I think the mount on roost was around $500 and the newest mount was around $600 with the oak base adding to the cost.

Good luck! I hope you get what you're after.

All of my mounts are done in a pose that is related to the hunt when I killed them. I always wanted a mount done with a buck lip-curling but I didn't want to just get one done for the heck of it. That's why I was so pumped when I got to see my PA buck lip-curl in front of me and then was able to tag him. 8-)

I'm actually in the process of remodeling the room that my mounts are in and part of the plan is removing a non-weight bearing wall which will open up 3 additional walls :L:
