My son's first buck

Unread postby natvbearhntr » Sat Jan 12, 2013 4:37 am

I think I posted this before but I finally got around to getting my son's mount re-done. This was the picture taken in the woods after he took his first buck.

Image

This is the mount we got back. When we picked this up from the shop he was very disappointed and asked the taxidermist "this is my buck" he was 10 and could see the buck didn't look like the one we brought in.

This is the redone mount after 2 years of him waiting to for me to take it in. The taxidermist had a hide and a form so we had it back in about 3 weeks. I have close to $1000.00 into this mount but my son is finally happy with the deer.
When I brought it in the house yesterday he asked the question "Is that my buck?" but had a different tone and a big smile on his face.

Very cool. Very happy for the young man. The redo was a good one.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

What was wrong with the first mount???

Very nice. Just curious as to why he didn't like the first mount? Is it because the neck is smaller on the form/mount than it is on buck he shot? I actually like both mounts very much but if the 2nd buck keeps the memory alive then getting it redone was the right move. If you are anything like me you'd do anything for your kids. Great looking mount!

we live in a very small community so the guy re-doing the mount didn't want to say anything but I go the impression he thought a doe mount was used for the first one. The hide was cut so much to try to get it to fit the form that it made the buck have a mane and under the mane you could see a bunch of staples that he tried to hold everything together with. I was really surprised when I actually started looking over the mount closely to see all the problems. But my son is very happy with the redo and that's all that matters to me.

I"m glad your son is happy. Congrats to him. It must have taken a while as your son looks like he grew quite a bit since then.

Good move on the re-do. The first mount looks like a doe with antlers and the second looks like a buck. Awesome.

Thanks everyone. He was 10 when he got the buck and he is 12 now. I don't know why it took me 2 years?
