first fur 2011

Unread postby ub1243 » Sat Nov 19, 2011 1:04 pm

set a few sets behind the house. well, 30 yards from the bedroom window.
picked up a boar coon in a cage. fish head under the trap, one inside the trap.
then a snared sow. running a trail along a swamp edge.

let them drop the fleas tonight, skin tomorrow, flesh and board sunday.
feels good to get some fur on the boards.

How do you process the fur? Tanning I assume? I would like to know how you do it. Maybe a how-to? That would be awesome!

skin, then let it hang for a day so the fat sets up.
then flesh
then on the board to dry.

i sell dry pelts to the country fur buyer near me.
Image

he sells at big auctions around the world.

i'll have to take some pictures during the skinning and fleshing and post them up. hard to mess with it when your hands are covered with coon grease.

I miss trapping.. Nice coon you got. You like skinning them things cold?

That is really cool. I would definitely appreciate a step by step. I am very interested in old school outdoors stuff. Probably why I shoot a recurve and am learning to tan hides and such.

first stop, my bait thief.
Image

made this crossover set yesterday.
Image

reset that log on both ends today.

had a coyote follow my tracks to a coyote snare. he dropped off a sign in a boot track for me. didn't follow me to the snare though. put down some uring and a call lure up high for him. hope he comes around again tonight.

now it's a waiting game for a mink to work the bottom edge.
we don't have big mink numbers around me, but a few are around.
