Public Land Finds 2016
Here are some sheds that my family and I picked up this season. I am still hoping to get out a few more times but its certainly winding down a bit with green up coming fast. These are all public land sheds. The big tall 5 point set is a buck we call Herbie, and we've got some serious history with him. Trail cam photos of him the past three years lead me to believe he is only a 4.5 yr old and going to be 5.5 this year. He should blow up into something really special. Both sides of his sheds score right around 70". The 8 point set is not quite as large but has longer beams and a great inside spread. Can't wait to get trail cams up this summer.
Always pick a spot!

You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Re: Public Land Finds 2016
You need to quit taking pictures and picking up sheds of Herbie and put him on the wall, great buck up there! Should pack on some more inches this year too.
Congrats on a productive shed season.

Re: Public Land Finds 2016
Hey sorry Seazofcheeze, this is a NE Wisconsin buck from the National Forest. I've also got some updates on him from this past season, but unfortunately for me, they don't include a hero shot haha. This buck has quite a large home range from what we can gather. Most bucks do up in the big woods but this buck in particular is incredibly spotty and good at showing up on different cameras quite a distance apart. My good friend who I met while bow hunting in these woods about 8 years ago had a near miss with him on November 8th. We were both up north bowhunting and talking strategy to try to get on this big boy along with a few other mature bucks in the area. My buddy has a great stand location up on top of a high oak flat that borders a lake. He has gotten lots of pictures of Herbie here in the past. He hunted this stand all day on November 7 and did not see a deer. It was very warm for this time of year and later that evening he and I were coming up with a game plan for the next day and he mentioned sitting in his swamp stand the following day which is just down the ridge about 400 yards and close to the edge of the lake. I mentioned that I thought it was a good idea due to the fact that the cedars and lake would hold cooler temps and might attract bucks cruising the area. Well he sat there all day and saw one coyote but no deer. The morning of Nov. 9, he sat the oak top stand again but had to leave for home late morning, and on his way out he pulled the card from his camera only to find the worst thing imaginable. The one day that he did not hunt this stand, Nov. 8, Herbie followed a hot doe up onto the oak top around 5 am and they both held up on the top of that hill for nearly 9 hours. Herbie appeared in front of the camera 24 times that day with almost all of them being in broad daylight. He texted me and said he was going to puke. I feel for him, and it sucks big time, but thats just the way big bucks seem to operate. Anyway, he again got pics of Herbie on the 23rd of November and if he made it through opening weekend his odds are very good that he is still walking today. Can't wait to try him late season or at least pull some magicman tactics and get on his track to learn about his whereabouts.
Always pick a spot!
