Broken shed question

Unread postby Bonecrusher101 » Thu Mar 10, 2016 8:09 am

Went scouting yesterday in tn and found this nice antler. I have never had much luck at spotting sheds. With all of the miles covered scouting and hunting over the last five years I can't remember finding any. I was pumped up when I found this one. It came off a buck I would be very proud of. To me, it looked broken off like it came off during a fight with another buck. I could be wrong tho. I'm also not very good at guessing age on these.

Do you think this antler came off a subordinate buck during a fight?

Do you think it was from last season?

Its definitly not this years antler either last year or the year before .looks like it was broken in november or during the rut or just got eaten from the base like that ...squirrels and mice wont do that much damage but a porcupine will !..i get so many pics of bucks with one antler in november .very common

Thanks bone collector. Yeah I'd say it was most likely from a healthy 2 1/2 yr old.

My guess is that he broke it off fighting. That's a great find with lots of character! Good job!

Tough to say how old the deer was without any scale reference, but I agree that it was most likely broken off during a fight. Looks like fall of 2014...

Whoaaaaaa, similar usernames, thought you were having a full on thread conversation with yourself for a minute there.

I definitely agree with a year or two old and most likely broken.
