A great day shed hunting BUT REALITY is painfully Evident.

Unread postby TN Whitetail Freak » Sun Mar 15, 2015 4:20 pm

Seems to be the way of public land hunters....seems none of them have tracking skills.....shoot whatever they see and then too dang lazy to track a deer....found 13 skulls and 3 sheds today all in a 1.5 acre area! is it me or this an excessive amount to you guys also....left 4 skulls on the ground because my back pack was full....glad I found some sheds but doubt ill be hunting here with all the hunters slaying all the deer for the yotes to eat on.

Way too many dead heads.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

13 skulls in 1.5 acres!! That's crazy!

Is there maybe some disease killing the deer?

I have put an ungodly amount of miles on while scouting this year already and haven't found one dead deer so far. :o

Could be disease, could be a bad apple or two amongst us, hopefully not 13 different bad apples. But, if there are a lot of deer in this area, and if those deer are going there to die, one might figure this is either a good area to hunt around, or this is where you might want to head if you lose a blood trail.

Very interesting find for sure.

This is what I thought....the area was holding the 3 sheds and tons of rubs so I was thinking this was a primary bedding area

Never seen anything like that. Last year I found maybe 6 dead in all the scouting I did and that was a ton of walking. This year so far I've found 2 dead heads both being bucks unfortunately. I would have to wonder about that area if your finding that many in a 1.5 acre area. Something definitely isn't right there.

Was this area close to a road where someone may have been dumping their deer?

Wow that's a bit excessive sounds like someone was shooting them and letting them lay. That's just terrible someone would do that.

You have a bad bought of EHD? In 2012 I found big groups of does together. In one particular stretch of tax ditch I found 13 dead does in a 100 yard stretch. The bucks antlers were never fully calcified so they would disinigrate to the bases and looked like the one you found. Either way it sucks weather it be hunter neglect or disease.
