Went out today for my first true shed hunt of 2015. It's a little early yet but I wanted to check two spots where I got scooped by other shed hunters last year to see if anyone had been there yet and to see what the deer were up to in the area.

Good news, the deer are there. Also good news, no other shed hunters yet unless they wear boots that leave hoof prints.

But alas, no sheds. I saw a total of 57 deer out and about today, and not a single antlered deer in the bunch . I recall one or two large-bodied deer that I'm guessing were shed out but other than that I think our post-harvest sex ratio here is so extremely skewed that the rest were in fact does and fawns.

There was A LOT of mid-day feeding...good sign for concentrating the deer in my wintering areas . Some of the standing corn I walked was just starting to get browsed, despite there being a ton of tracks nearby. I would say the herds are just now settling in.

First real shed hunt of the year and I found my biggest and most beautiful ever within 10 minutes of getting out of the truck. I roughly scored it at 64.75" Really made up for finding out my ladder stand got stolen off of private land earlier this morning.

Found it laying right under a freshly rubbed tree

And my beagle Yadi playing with it

Found this one Saturday.

I saw two bucks in the morning that were half racks. Later I went out and found their tracks in the snow. As I back tracked them I found blood and not much furher this half rack. Nice 2.5 yr old. Looked like I found it just hours after he dropped it.

I went out once last weekend and once this weekend. I was in "sheddy" spots the whole time but haven't found anything yet. I've seen over 75 deer in the field and only 2 still had antlers. Those bucks were still carrying both.
