Too late for sheds

Unread postby eastwoodhunter » Mon Mar 10, 2014 8:48 am

I'm in southwest Ohio. When is it too late to shed hunt. I have only had a chance to get out once this year. I know there's always a chance just wondering if there was a certain window of time before it's usually too late.

Depends on other competition for sheds , green-up and rodents. For me in about 1 week will be primetime.

Eastwood... if you are snowless it is primetime. If you have a foot + of snow yet like WI the best shed hunting is yet to come.Once the snow is gone I like to go on overcast day after a rain storm... the sheds almost glow on the ground then. I have found sheds right up to mid May... once green up arrives with grasses etc. it gets difficult. Good luck

I have found sheds while deer hunting that the squirrels did not get. But it's best as soon as most of the snow is gone IMO.

I never get serious until the 15th of March.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Does that mean you'll be in the woods next Saturday?

I think a lot of the snow will be gone. Close to 60 today and above freezing for the rest of the week.

Possibly. The looking should be good with all the grass laid down from the snow. A nice overcast day helps the looking also.
