Saw this pic on facebook today. Looks like 550 chord tied around the small trees designed to pull antlers off of bucks. There appears to be a bait pile in the middle of the trees. Good idea, or no?
Interesting idea.

Re: Interesting idea.
Illegal is some states. It is illegal in many states to attach anything that could get caught in or catch on the antlers to "unnaturally" pull them off. I have seen this at feeding stations with mesh above the feed so when the deer reaches in they have to bump their antlers. The set up you show would be illegal in MN.

Interesting.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Re: Interesting idea.
I've heard of it but think its a horrible idea. What happens if the buck's antlers aren't ready to come off yet? He will most likely get tangled up and hurt pretty bad. I've also heard of the chicken wire idea, as well as the wire in a bed and think that is horrible. Just because its the spring doesn't mean a deer's antlers are ready to come off yet.
The only thing that MIGHT work is placing 1x1s just far enough apart and off the ground so a deer without antlers can fit its head through and feed. A buck with antlers will try and fit its head through and if its antlers are lose they may come off trying to get it's head in. If there not ready to come off, no corn/feed yet for him but at least he won't get hung up.
I'm not a fan of any of these ideas but they are ones that I have heard being attempted.

Re: Interesting idea.
I've seen a few where they place bait far enough under ground, That when the buck goes into the bait the bucket will take the antlers off without putting the deer at harm. Still don't like it though!

Not too sure I like this. Kind of takes the fun out of shed hunting.

Re: Interesting idea.
Shed hunting should be about learning about deer, you learn nothing by baiting. If you want sheds you should take a walk. Looks like a good way to kill deer inadvertantly in my opinion.
Find his shed, find his bed, use your head to make him dead.
