I'm gearing up for the 24th annual "Shiver on the River" walleye fishing contest for Saginaw Bay and Saginaw River. It starts this weekend and goes for a couple of weeks. Plenty of prizes (see below) and the winner gets a cool Grand!
Here's some of my pics from years past:
I normally fish 3-5 miles offshore. Note the ice mountain in the background, a mile on the other side of my quad- you can see ice shanties on the horizon, and the ice mountain is over 30 feet high where two colossal ice shelves smashed together:
Here's my rig, many miles offshore:
yes, I also release many Walters! Here's the contest:

You cannot invade mainland America. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

Thanks Magic
We didn't really have the typical January thaw here, so both the river and the bay have pretty good conditions- should be a good time for thousands of ice anglers.

It's pretty tough to end up in the top 25 at the end... with over two thousand anglers you would have to finish in the top one percent (just over, actually).
I haven't bothered to enter a fish as unless you are near or over double digit weight for a single fish, you won't make the top 25 at the end. However, it hasn't been overly difficult to catch weights that would get me on the leader board during the first week of the contest- it just hasn't been important to me. Maybe Ol' Bridge will slap one on there (leader board) to post on the Beast if I'm fortunate enough to land a qualifier this year.

If I find out where you live it will be even lower.

Re: Shiver on the River 2011
Thanks guys- I'm going to prefish tomorrow and the tournament begins Saturday... of course I have to work Saturday through Tuesday.
Hopefully the Coast Guard will be a lot less busy this winter on the Bay too. Great conditions are present, we'll see how they hold out.
