I am wanting to start spearing pike now that I don't have to plow snow anymore.
I've heard people talk about certain decoys which they swear by. Wondering if anyone has any input on this?
Don't really want to waste $ on a junk decoy.
Thanks

Re: Spearing
It is Great fun!!
I have had my best luck with red and whites when using artificial deeks.
But I almost always swim a live sucker in the hole along with any artificial that I use.
My artificials are almost all over 10" long and I like to get the live suckers at least that big when I can.
Problem is, suckers can be expensive and hard to keep alive between outings.
Good luck and keep us posted on your success!
I am hopefully heading out on Monday.

Any recommendations on a deek manufacture?

Re: Spearing
Not really, I have a few Deuy (sp) that I like, but just get the carved ones, the molded plastic ones suck!
I imagine that MI has some local carvers that make some good ones.

Re: Spearing
I always run a medium sucker decoy and a teazer. Another tip for your sucker decoys, buy yourself a wire mesh panfish basket with the spring loaded top. Then at the end of the day you just lower it down the hole. You can keep your decoys alive for weeks. And no messing around with transporting them from home to lake.

Re: Spearing
a teaser or spinner can be very effecive. Daredevil with no hooks hung from a spool attached to a wind chime spinner. http://www.birdfeeders.com/store/wind-s ... rs/8013-50
it's probably good becasue they don't see soo many of them.
My stepFather in law's brother (I know, it's distant ) is dennis Bertram so I'll give a plug for his decoys. I find that decoy selection depends on the lake for me. Some like natural colors but Red and White are kind of the ol standby.
