Re: 2/16/13 Ice fishing Petenwell
I was over there Tuesday, out of the county park. I used an orange #5 jigging rap for 25 white bass and about half of a dozen crappies. Perch-colored jigging spoon/minnow took the rest of the dozen crapps,8 cats and some of the many undersized walleyes. One beaver dam tippy accounted for another handfull of short 'eyes....I was with two friends, and we also fished Monday (out from The Lure) and did not do all that well. In two days we did not see one legal walleye.
If I were going tomorrow,I'd make sure there were at least three,#5 orange jigging raps in the box. This time I'd also bring some #3's in orange.
"Bottom of the drop" channel edge in 26' fow, near (but not IN) timber...buddies were in timber,in 20' on the edge. Their total for two guys,Tuesday, was 5 whites,6 crappies, a few short walleyes and a few more shortys on tippys.....That's the problem with sitting inside,in heat: You get comfortable and lazy.

Don't have jigging raps, may have to pick some up.
Today deadsticking minnows was wkg in the am. Also a green forage minnow loaded with spikes or a green buckshot same way.

Re: 2/16/13 Ice fishing Petenwell
Fished hard all day. Morning bite was pretty good but I kept losing fish on a tipdown and minnow I was fishing while also jigging. I ended up with 7, 6 very nice ones. Had 2 friends up there also. One ended up with 21 crappie, 1 whitebass and the other one had 25 crappie and 4 whitebass. They schooled me good but was still a fun day. I think I need to add a small treble to my tipdown instead of a single hook.
One of the hot jigging lures.

Always nice crappies from Petenwell....IMO,they're a little softer than ones I catch on smaller lakes but I really like seeing a big slab coming up outta the hole. Crappies caught on a jigging rap are almost always slabs.
BTW,crappies the day before wanted an orange cecil over the rap or jigging spoon.
