The Beaver is takin my hunting trees!!

Unread postby PredatorTC » Fri Nov 12, 2010 9:59 am

My cousin and i were floating up a creek the other day and we saw what looked like a trail crossing the creek only it did not cross. It was just on one side. So we went to take a look and once we got on the land we could not belive what we saw. We saw 14 trees that were all chewed down from a bever. Some of these trees were 6 inches around. once he had them cut down, he would chew the branches off and float them down the river. So i took some vid and made a few pics out of them but the way i wanna post them is not working.

Can i email these pics to someone to give it a try?

Yeah those darn beavers sure can do some damage. Here is a video from spring scouting out on one of the islands I hunt in a public marsh.

I get all kinds of people telling me that there are no beaver in SE Wisconsin!
Guess it must be large mutant muskrats chewing down all of those trees!

I plan on trapping a few I know about in the immediate area - my dad tried trapping as a way of life when he was in his early twenties. He was also a horseshoer and ferrier, not to mention he rode in rodeo competitions roping cattle... Then he had me and realized he needed a regular job, lol. Either way, he's got some of his traps left and definitely the know-how.. I'm looking forward to seeing some results.

By the way, PredatorTC, you say "as big as 6" around"... Dude, that's a sapling. The tree's in the area's I'm targeting are so big around, you can barely wrap your arms around them - maybe 35-40 inches around.

I had this problem 20yrs ago, and my family waged war on them. We trapped them with coniber traps and sat out on their feeding areas close to dark with spot lights so we could shoot them at dark. After 2yrs we had the problem taken care of and they have never come back. Check the game laws to be sure it's legal to do this.People don't understand the damage and the waste fullness of these cute little animals. good luck. deerman

You realize how you worded this makes it sound like a insult?

...and you realize that this is just another $0.02 post from you? At least you weren't reiterating one of Dan's post's as usual. PM me next time, I still check it.

Predator, sure hope you didn't think my post was meant to be insulting - it wasn't.

Oh, I thought you were no longer posting on this site Sam? :? :? That is under your real name........... I was merely trying to state that how you worded this could be construed as an insult, least that's how it looked to me seeing as you seem to always post like you're better than everyone else!
Maybe you should take your own advice and stay off this forum, you don't seem to have the temperment for it.
