Re: Off to Texas!
It was an awesome time! Turns out the ranch we stayed on (Duval county Ranch out of Freer,Tx) Is the premier big buck ranch in all of texas! Several of thier deer have won the Muy Grande deer contest and the biggest buck taken off this free range ranch to date has been a 230 inch 6.5 year old. It is intensely managed for mature trophy whitetails. So it was very cool in that aspect as well as the javalina.......I even got an invite back to video the ranch manager this fall during thier rut! I feel very fortunate to have made such a contact and humbled to be asked back.

Re: Off to Texas!
A few pics:
Talk about wet!!!! This is south Texas brush country, it should be dry and dusty with dirt on the sendaros
One mean tarantula! He was minding his own business til I pushed him with my boot, then he was ready to fight!
Me and Adrian Blakey (Steve's friend and my new friend from Sealy) discussing a plan of attack next to Steve's new buggy.
How about that, I had to travel all the way from the Badger State to kill a badger! (legal in Tx.)
Adrian on the left and me on the right with the badger.
The bunk house at the main ranch camp, where package deer hunters stay
Inside
Monster 230" buck taken by the ranch owner's wife
All taken on the ranch:
This is a managed ranch where only mature trophy bucks or cull bucks are taken, some lease members on Jim's pasture have been hunting for two years and not dropped the hammer on 130-150 class deer because they were not old enough yet! 6.5 is the age they start to take big deer unless they feel they have more potential for antler growth,or they are a cull buck that has weak potential.
Now what you've probably been waiting for ......pics of the javalina!
To be continued...................

Re: Off to Texas!
Cool stuff Chris.
I spoke with Chris and he was telling me about the hunt, loved the part where they had to use bolt cutters to get into the brush 50 yards to look for another javelina

Re: Off to Texas!
More pics. of the Javelina......
Mugging with the Javvie.
Steve on the left, PPTV pro-staffer and good friend
Live weight of my piggie was 57 lbs. a good average on dressed javelina is from 30-40lbs. So mine was on the heavy side of average (about 39lbs. dressed).
After the shot when we walked up to my prize I found my arrow with the broadhead end broken off about 14" from the nock (I shoot 30" arrows) the mystery was solved when we were skinning the javvie, the arrow entered just in front of the right ear (he was quartering to at the shot)and the broadhead was lodged in the left rear ham I skewered him
All in all it was one of the best hunting trips I have ever been privledged enough to share with old friends and some new ones now as well. It's a trip I won't soon forget and I can't thank my good friend Steve Alleman enough as well as my new friends Adrian Blakey and Jim Stinson!!!!!

Re: Off to Texas!
Nice pics. I need to try that sometime. I checked out the outfitters website. If I ever win the lottery I am going there. Just for fun I figured out how much a 185 inch buck would cost in fees. I came up with 17,500. Ouch
Nonrefundable booking fee of $3500.00 + trophy fees of $200/inch from 145 inches to 160 inches gross B&C.
Trophies from 160 to 175 inches gross B&C will include all previous fees up to 160 inches + $400/inch up to 175 inches.
Trophies from 175 to 185 inches gross B&C will include all previous fees up to 175 inches + $500/inch up to 185 inches.
Trophy fees for deer over 185 inches will be negotiated.
Trophies will be priced according to B&C Gross score.

Re: Off to Texas!
You have to consider this is THE premier whitetail ranch in Texas if not the nation, it is free range no high fence and strictly managed for age structure deer. They do have hunts for less as you obviously saw on the website for lesser bucks.
My hunt was not an outfitted hunt for the javelina, we were invited to stay at one of the camps (not the main camp) as a friend of Steve's is good friends with the section manager Jim. We were not guided other than Steve's friend showing us the ranch and helping to corn the sendaros for Javvies. Would I pay for a whitetail hunt there? I don't know because it is much different hunting then we have here, in the brush country it is impossible to set tree stands because there are no trees, and stalking is very tough as sendaros are the only way to get around, you cannot take off into the brush without bolt cutters because the cactus and mesquite are way too thick to just walk through. So box or ground blinds over feeders are about the only viable way to hunt deer there and I'm not a gun hunter anymore and hunting over a feeder isn't top on my list.
I was asked to go back and video Jim (camp manager), deer hunting this fall and I think it would be cool to get video of some of those monster bucks, but like I said hunting over a feeder doesn't appeal too much to me, so i don't know if I would take my bow along or not.
