It was a dry year after August 15th.

A few months back I was driving home from hunting and an otter ran across the road in front of me! Not a common sight in SE WI but I have seen a few before in the marsh. Must have came from the river a few hundred yards away.

I'm not sure where they came from there are no rivers close by. Some farm ponds?

The state wildlife people started re-stocking otters a few years back. They'll travel from pond to pond in search of fish. We don't have rivers either, just creeks, dry most of the time. They'll clean out a catfish pond in a heartbeat. My father in law shot 2 of them at the same time in his pond once.

I got this pic little over a year ago...

I too heard they wipe out the fish in ponds. First time I have ever seen them on this property.

I don't think fishers are native to Iowa. River otters are native to Iowa and I believe are trapped by some for the hide.

In MN they are famous for cleaning out your minnow bucket on some of the big fishing lakes. If you don't wire them shut the otter have a free for all. We use to have a cage/box livewell off the dock at my parents cabin, otters figured out how to open the latch and scored a few meals off of us.
