Ontario Moose Hunt

Unread postby Gibby » Sat Oct 01, 2011 4:35 am

Just got home from a two week Archery Moose hunt in Northern Ontario, it was a great hunt, 4 of us went up and we harvested a 50 inch Swamp Donkey
I was not the shooter but had a great hunt just the same with plenty of action, I seen 8 moose myself and 5 of them were Bulls, out of the 15 the group seen in total
This was the shooters first moose and he was happier than a pig in you know what :D

This was the view from camp, with over 20 miles of lake access, we did a little fishing and cooked up walleye and moose tenderloin on 2 different nights, what a feast that was :L:Image

Came across a few fresh rut pits (4 in total) these pics were taken just after a rain but they were getting freshened up daily until the bull hooked up with a cow and then they went cold

We processed the moose in camp and everything was frozen by the time we got home

Can't wait to do it again next year :D

Great hunt Gibby!

If you don't mind me asking what kind of $$$ do you need for a guide and license for a trip like this? You are required to use a guide aren't you? The MN moose season is a long shot and might be getting shut down anyway so I do plan to head north for a moose hunt at some point.

Looks like fun. That is the hunt that is at the top of my list. Only it will be alaska, I have a cousin that lives there. His wife just shot a 60" bull a week or two ago.

I am a resident of Ontario so I am not really sure what the non-resident guidelines are to be honest

I got off my lazy but and checked it out, $438.28 for us non-residents. Not too bad considering what they get for an iowa tag, not to mention you get a lot more meat out of the deal. I suppose a guide can vary.

X2. Aside from whitetails I can't think of another big game animal I'd like to hunt more than a moose. Sweet pics and congrats to the shooter.

I couldn't fit mine in the house. I had to take a window out to get it in. I would suggest a split rack mount. That is what I will be doing on any future moose like mounts.

Looks like a pretty awesome hunt Gibby. Moose is on my list, but hunting Elk is gonna happen first.
