My 2015 Elk Trip
After following some guys and their posts on their west trips I figured I'll post mine up. I leave in the morning for Colorado. I'm flying out tomorrow and should hopefully be hunting 1st thing Friday morning. I have two buddies that left last Sunday and are currently hunting New Mexico. I'll be meeting them and we hunt Colorado then drive home. My buddy Jesse scored on a nice bull last night.
I'm gonna try and post updates and pics when I can, and I'll follow up for sure when I get back.

Man... I plan on smashing a rag horn if I get a chance. All these BIG bulls are making me rethink posting a dinker if I get one

Re: My 2015 Elk Trip
Well guys, unfortunately this post did not go as planned because the reception where I was, pretty much was not happening. I'll just do a quick summary of the trip.
I flew into Denver, Thursday afternoon. We made it out Friday morning and I got my first taste of elk action. We had a herd below us working their way up. We just hung back and paralleled them up the mountain. We got to the point where we could smell them and got pinned down by a couple cows. They saw our buddy move up the hill and the whole herd busted out!! After that I was hooked. It reminds me of turkey hunting on steroids. Over the course of the next 9 days we got close to sealing the deal only to get screwed over by a cow, running out of light, and the worst one of the trip......swirling wind!! I had a 330+ bull coming in screaming. I saw him at 75 yards as he was walking towards my setup then I lost him in the timber. I waited for about 2 minutes for him to pop out 40yards from my location....then I felt the wind change and start blowing on my neck....cow barked, herd took off, game over! SO CLOSE!!!! I learned a ton about elk hunting this trip thanks to my new buddies Dave and Karl who live out there and took me in and showed me the ropes. I believe they cut my learning curve in half. They took me over 12500 ft up looking for elk (ended up seeing mountain goats), chased elk up gulches, along scree, in timber, along streams, and wading across beaver ponds!!! I definetly got the whole experience. Karl's cousin got a nice 6x Saturday, so I got the experience of packing out a hind quarter 2 miles out. My buddy Jesse continued his streak and tagged out the first night he was in Colorado on a 5x. I think he had maybe 5 hours hunting time invested in his 2 elk this year....UNREAL...We actually drug that out of the woods in a huge Otter sled, maybe 400 yards. That was a workout, luckily it was in the bottoms and not up the mountain. I can't wait to get back. I could've tagged out multiple times with a gun, but what fun is that!! I wish I could've posted daily but oh well. I ended up seeing multiple moose, mountain goats, muleys including 1 huge buck, antelope, and elk. I can't wait till I can make this a yearly trip with my boys.
