A Pic For Rancid Crabtree

Unread postby Spysar » Fri Aug 14, 2015 10:56 am

I noticed Rancid posting lately, so I wanted to show him this pic. Then I figured I'd show everyone.

It's a knife and sheath made by Rancid. Rancid made the handle out of a Maine moose antler shed. The antler was provided to Rancid by a cat we knew online by the handle RR. So the shed was shipped to WI from Maine. Rancid then did all the fine craftsmanship, and shipped the knife from WI to NY. To Me! One of the instructions Rancid left was to bloody the knife. So when I was the subpermitee for a Maine moose hunt, I knew the knife had to make the trip back to Maine to get bloodied.

So this is me, a moose I called in, and my friend shot, and the knife and sheath, right before I used it to gut the moose.

Thanks Rancid! The knife is one of my prized hunting possessions

Cool and congrats. Here is how that steel and bone came to be.

I cut the handle from a section of the antler that provided a finger guard.

Then picked a blade form that matched the handle.

Then made an O1 steel blade with a little file work.

Then contoured the brass and added a some ink.

Next I made a sheath with a moose antler image.

I used the tip of the antler as a display base.

Awesome Rancid, you still had all the pics!

Rancid, do you know what year you made the knife? The moose hunt was last season, 2014.

I never get rid of any pics. I have a pic here of my first encounter with a deer. Here you can see me with my hand on my chin as I ponder how I can get that deer in my belly without a full set of teeth.

I never get rid of pics.

Good stuff.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I made that knife for you back in 2008. I added the moose decoration anticipating you would use it on a moose. Yeah, thats the ticket. ;)
