Hi every one,
I would like to go in Colorado for my first Elk hunt in 2011.
It's in a long time, but I want to fix all I can before to go.
Can you tell me, at what time the rut are beginning?
When the Elk loose them velvet?
So all the biological detail about Elk live...
(A complete web site address will be fine too).
Thank all folks!
My first time Elk hunting plan!

Re: My first time Elk hunting plan!
I go to Colorado every year chasing those bulls. The rut is very dependant on the weather. If I had to pick a week it would be mid to late mid September. We always go before the muzzleloader which is usually the weekend after Labor Day. About every 3 years it is pushed back a week which is best.
We are mostly gone over Labor Day weekend just to beat the stick boys. Knock on wood but we always see bulls and cows and most days they are vocal for about the first 2 hours after shooting light.
We have an advantage of knowing the area. We tent camp in the remote. Our camp area we can drive to but we are off the road and you cannot see us.
We buy over the counter tags. Get some calls and practice. I like the Primos calls. Very easy to master and they sound good.
Let me know if you have any other questions......I will answer all with the exception of our location.
