Wow! Thanks for posting this Dor.
How much water do you bring on a hunt like this? What percentage of your water do you get from a stream and filter it? Just curious because water has to have an impact on the weight of your pack.

If
Depends if you are base camping from your truck or out of pack and how long you will be. Water source available? etc....
I once figured minimum of 1000 oz for 1 guy per hunt. if you brought it all on a 9-10 day hunt.

Is a frame pack the way to go, or would say the sitka bivy 45 accomplish the same mission? What is your target weight for the rig?

I like to frame pack in my base camp and have a seperate smaller day pack to hunt out of. I believe my pack came in at 63 lbs last year. That was pretty easy for me to load on the frame to our base camp a few miles in.
Have not seen nor used the Bivy 45 so I can't say for sure. The "frame" attached to the flash 32 is barely adequate to haul out a quarter back to camp once you get an elk down....not sure how the frame on the bivy is built.

Dor, great list. I would have to disagree with the dinner choice however. I prefer the chiken with rice and Stroganoff is my last choice. lol

Thanks for the list, I am starting to show more interest in the western big game, want to get he right gear the 1st time. Love the whitetails but, lots of big rough country seems like it could hold some treasures if a guy is willing to work hard.

Re: Dor's 2012 Elk Pack list (evolves yearly)
The Katadyn has worked awesome the last couple years, The best feature is that u don't have to dig your bladder out of your pack, it quik connects right to the hose and you just pump and fill.. Makes it really nice and the water taste great and I have yet to get sick.. I had Ghardia once and will never go with out a filter again.
