my annual trip to the bwca

thought i would share some old pics of my annual trip to the bwca with some of my high school buddies. usually we plan it during memorial weekend but that didnt work for a few guys and so we are going this thursday and i cant wait. i love everything about the boundary waters, the drive up, hauling our booze across the portages, camping, fishing, just a good time. i would like to sometime try to find lakers during early ice out up there. if you love fishing and the outdoors in general, i would suggest a trip to the boundary waters. its got great scenery up there as well as fishing if you can find them.

ive done a few hardcore trips up there but this trip we take is a lazy mans trip, we make a few portages, setup camp and then raise . during the mornings, we leave camp and portage a few lakes over to chase northerns and smallies, when the sun starts setting, we head back to our camp lake and hammer the walleyes.

we catch walleyes like this all night, 12-23", almost gets boring once you find them

we decided to take our limit of eaters home the last night last year







we definitely dont pack light for this trip as you can see.

Great pic's I have not been in the BWCA area, but I do bear hunt right against its border in Northern Minnesota. Its a special area. I am awe struck every time up there and always hate to go home no matter how long I stay.

Does he have a brother named Jim? Spitting image of the guy. Worked with Jim for 3 years over in MN. He lived near the cities but we were working in Benson and Morris MN.

Nice Pictures, likes like a good trip. Look forward to going every year, it's just great country. Good fishing, great deer hunting. And with 1.1 million acres, plenty of room to find some solitude.

There are just some things you'll experience up there that will make the trip aside from the beautiful scenery. I've heard wolves up there howling, heard people shoo-ing bears away from their camp , loons calling to each other, and one evening of fishing, we saw a big bull moose taking a shortcut to get from point A to point B by swimming across the lake about 100 yards from us fishing. It's truly god's country up there.

Agreed....many experiences that you don't have in the concrete jungle.

Been up a couple of times in the summer on portage trips, scouting and fishing. Seems to be quite alot of human activity in the summertime. But come November, if you get off the beaten path, rarely ever see anybody.
