Autumn Is Upon Us - Tree Stand vs Boat?

Unread postby Sam Ubl » Thu Sep 23, 2010 7:23 am

This is that special time of year again. The brain ache of whether to sit the stand or hit the water is again an inner battle of the best kind... What a great problem to have, hey? Don't take it for granted, it really IS a great problem to have.

Pewaukee and other area lakes in the Lake Country area of SE Wisconsin are on fire right now, as are many of the lakes in the Northern part of the state.

Having just returned from the Northwoods of Wisconsin just two days ago, I can assure you the colors are near full swing already!! Day time temps are ranging in the 50's and low 60's with overnight lows nearing 30!!

Water temps in the northern part of the state are in the 50's already, but down here in SE WI, we're in the high 60's and slowly sinking - PERFECT!!

You can't beat this time of year, so get yourself a couple sucker rigs, and tie on a Suick, a glider (maybe a Phantom), a big pair of 10 blades light enough to slow retrieve but carry high in the water column (Shumways Giant Flasher), and don't forget to bring some big rubber and/or crankbaits (Bulldawgs/Triple D's or Depthraiders)... Just to name a few.

Their hot to trot RIGHT NOW - so what are you gonna do? :P

Alot of days I'm in a tree dreaming about the Ranger, and if I'm in the boat I'm thinkin I should be in the tree. What to do?
I usually opt for the hunt, but if its youth season or the early doe season I'm in my boat throwing Pounders!
When gun season rolls around I im in the boat! Oh yeah, I gotta get my dog out for some pheasant action too. Not enough fall to go around that for sure.

As much as I love musky fishing I love bowhunting bucks more. It is really hard because I know I am missing out on some of the best musky fishing of the year right now.

If I shoot a buck early then I will head back out on the lakes again.

Put on a giant hook and string it through an apple and cast it out from your treestand... And hold on tight!

I went out fishing last week on a river during the TZONE. I usually do really good during this time of year for walleyes but it was slow. I will definately spend my time in a tree the rest of the season.

That would be considered baiting. For those of us where baiting is illegal I'd suggest artificial lures.
