This Could Happen To You

Unread postby Sam Ubl » Fri Jul 16, 2010 4:21 am

I used to be into water skiing about as equally as fishing. I would dedicate myself to a ski team in the summers and cut the water with a ski about as often as I did with a line. In that time, I was always good about giving fisherman their space - BECAUSE I'm a fisherman and even when I skied a lot, I HATED skiers when they got too close to me and often still do throw heavy Pounders, MagDawgs and twin-10's at their boats when they get too close...

It's time now, that the competitor of our fine sport of Musky fishing, the Musky his/herself, join forces with us fisherman/women and fight back.

So now that you've seen this picture, which is a still shot taken from a REAL video (yes, I saw it), think twice before pulling your pleasure boat or ski rig too close to the bubble around a musky fisherman... They know we'll release them, and they like the fight - don't be a fool, musky are on OUR side..

The real explanation or my BST anyways, to why this fish jumped at the tail or the propwash is because musky will use the propwash's affect on baitfish to it's advantage.

Propwash will disorient baitfish and scatter them. This is why you may have heard of prop wash trolling or casting into the propwash of a jerk pleasure boater... It's the real deal, and this is proof. This fish was more than likely feeding on a frenzy of freaked out baitfish and the camera just happened to be on.

That is a great pic. 8-)

We have a legend from a large inland lake in the lower peninsula, pretty clear and deep for the most part, of a musky attack on a water skier (his ski, actually). The people in the boat and the guy waterskiing claimed a huge musky came up and latched onto one of his ski's, wiping the skier out. The general consensus was that the sun reflected off the ski's and the musky was hungry- maybe a prop wash draw with ski flashing in the sun combo. No idea if any of its true, but the story's been passed down for decades.
