LOTW Muskie in the Boat

Unread postby THA4 » Tue Aug 09, 2011 3:50 pm

I live for whitetails in the fall, gobblers in the spring, and LOVE big teeth during the summer. Unfortunately, Iowa doesn't have much for musky fishing so I have to travel to MN. I wish I could live up there for the summer... . :geek:

It has been a lifelong dream of mine to fish Lake of the Woods and finally got my chance this summer, but only for two days.... I was fortunate enough to stick this 44"er on the 10th time around the Figure 8. Amazing place, amazing fish.... I NEED to go back!

Nice fish!! 8-) Congrats!!
What part of LOTW were you on? My Dad and I fished there for the first time last summer. We were near Nestor Falls on Sabaskong Bay and stayed at Canadian Haven. LOTW is an amazing lake and we loved it up there as well and hope to get back up there next summer. It's a huge lake and you could never fish it all in many many lifetimes. Some of the best scenery I have ever seen along with plenty of wildlife. Wish I lived closer as well so I could fish it more often. Definately hard to fish WI again after being so spoiled up there!! :D

A couple of guys I know, do a combo hunt/fishing trip every year on LOTW.
They hunt the pennisula unit 7A I believe, use a houseboat as mobile deer camp, and a couple of small boats w/outboards as tow behinds for hunting and fishing. The pennisula is bow/muzzle hunting only, which keeps the amount of hunters to a minimum, also mostly water access, very few if any roads. And some of the bucks they have taken.....

NICE FISH !!!
I fished it one time , when my brother and me did the Musky school for Musky Hunter magazine with Jim Saric..... It was a blast, my biggest was only a 45", but there was 5 fish caught that week by others that went 50".... I saw some absolute tankers follow in next to the boat, but could not get them to eat.... Great time had by all, but you really have to watch out for those huge rocks only 1 foot under the water out in the middle of the bay's.....

Thats the truth, lots of oozing boat sores on that lake. It claims a lot of lower units from what I hear. :D But I guess thats what makes it so much fun to fish! We fished near the NW Angle, Monument Bay, Portage Bay, and the surrounding waters. Two days only teased me, I need about 10 on that lake to be satisfied with one trip...
