Musky Trip

Amid tough fishing reports with any musky fisherman we talked to we still plugged it out and boated some fish. Friday night, zip. Saturday we fished from 4 am to 10 pm and boated a tiger, but a huge front blew thru and temps dropped.

Sunday we did some "running and gunning" and first lake we popped this nice 40

We ran to another lake and popped these two, a solid 44/45 and a 48/49, my first musky. ;)

We then took out again and ran to another lake, popped the last 2 of the day.

We caught the majority of the fish from 10-2 and after 2 pm all the bait fish settled down and we didn't see any more suspended fish, bait or musky. Short window and now it's back to a pile of suck as we fished from 2 pm to 10 pm and didn't raise a fish.

Last year I met 2 great guys and we struck a deal, I can fish till I drop for the next few years and I have to point them in the right direction for Iowa bucks, run cams, and maybe hang a few stands for them when they draw. Up until 2 pm on Sunday I was going to stick them in a Walmart parking lot, after the fish success I'll at least put forth a college effort. After a February ice fishing trip I may pull out all stops for them! ;)

Thanks HH, it was fun, it's good to now be friends with you Mark, it's not feeling so much like a "business transaction" anymore.

Great fish muddy. Congrats! 8-)
At least if they were hunting at walmart parking lot if they got hungry or cold they would be close to both. They also could get some great photos for those "People of walmart" emails I get.

Let me know when you want to go........will have to blindfold you just like I did Muddy.

Pictures look good, but believe me we forced those fish to eat. Had to make it happen vs let it happen.

Pounded the crap out of areas when fish were located and added a touch of finesse.

This was really not that unordinary of a weekend........we have had better.....much better. But considering the weather and past few weeks trends was happy with the results.

Good times Muddy.... good times. Only had late Sunday night to unwind with a good whiskey or two as it was early rise and fish late.

Looking forward to icefishing this winter.......trust me, alot more relaxing and still catch fish.

Thanks for the company, as always muddy's positive attitude kept him going in somewhat tough conditions and looking forward to many future adventures in the years to come.

Yes, let me stress we POUNDED the lakes and coupled with last year I really feel we hit that post front bite perfectly. Every other fishermen who wasn't a guide trying to entice new clients said the same thing, "its the toughest/strangest/hardest summer of musky fishing in some time".

We got lucky in the little window, hopefully it picks up soon.

I'm pumped for ice fishing, sitting on my but, no casting, and driving a wheeler to the tip ups sounds excellent.

I was also informed that Tigers don't count because they're part pike! LoL

I'd have given my left and right nut if that 49 was a Tiger!

Muddy, 50 inches is a Boone and Crockett musky... Getting a 49" is like shooting a 169 inch net typical whitetail, you got robbed!

J/K Thats an awesome fish!

Muddy....
Did you get the shakes or anything after you got the fish in the boat ? Kind of like shooting a big buck........ I know I always did when I was big into the musky fishing....

Not really, I was pretty excited but it faded fairly quickly. Hodag about pissed himself tho when we landed my fish.

I don't mean to offend any fishermen, but to me it was a just a fish... a REALLY BIG fish but still just a fish. Sorry, but when I shoot a buck it trumps catching fish by quite a bit.

I do consider myself VERY fortunate to catch a big fish though, many fishermen NEVER get that chance.

They should genetically alter musky to grow antlers... Wouldn't that be cool?
