Re: Sturgeon Fishing 2016
Very cool. I hooked a big one in the dark on Lake Winnebago last year. Thought I had the next world record musky.

Wow...prehistoric beasts! We see them often here in Maine when we are striper fishing the rivers. They will break the water with a huge splash. They are 100% illegal to fish here.

Re: Sturgeon Fishing 2016
Bowhunter 15,
Nicely done! It's Steelhead season still here in Michigan... But you make me want to try for some Sturgeon on some local rivers!
It is a trip to see a 4' to 6’ sturgeon swim upstream to spawn. They look like a shark working their way up stream.
Thanks for the video link. Too many folks have no clue how the great lakes were once the premier place for “Caviar” or cured Sturgeon eggs.
The Great Lakes were so full of Sturgeon years ago and in the Spring you could almost walk on their back across some rivers.
Just like commercial hunters destroyed deer hunting in Michigan, the same happened on the great lakes.
Thanks Trad Brother!

Re: Sturgeon Fishing 2016
Btw, I'm pretty sure you can legally fish them in Mich. and in some locations spear them in the winter.
But you have to release them in most waters.
A few years ago some idiot kept one while Steelhead fishing.
The local Steelheaders called the DNR when he refused to release it.
Hopefully someday more folks can enjoy the fight!
