Not generally. However, in this particular case I decided to keep the fish. We were eating fish at camp but not catching many walleyes. This was in a very remote section of a river system that doesn't receive much fishing pressure anyway relative to non-BWCA waters, so I didn't feel too bad about removing one big spawner. We had a big fish grill at work this week so it definitely didn't go to waste.

Northerns actually taste pretty good. Just real bony.

And slimy. With the smaller ones it was hardly worth the effort to clean for the amount of meat you ended up with.

Well he was a nice sized fish that's for sure.

Not sure if the camera just did not pick it up but it appeared it did not put up a big fight before you landed it.

I was using my frog setup for bass fishing which has 65 pound power pro and the drag cranked all the way down to haul bass out of thick grass and lily pads. I think once it started running it burned out fast trying to essentially tow the canoe. Still was pretty green though. I bet if it had been on a more medium setup the fish would have put up much more of a fight.

I marinated it in a mixture I found from "Earth and Lake to Plate", then made a foil cocoon and grilled it. It was excellent.
