So my boat capsized at our cabin while i was not there and the motor was under water for a few hours. Its just an old 56 evinrude but ran like a dream. Is it shot? What can i do? I pulled the spark plug and got most of the water out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: boat motor submerged
Nope had this happen a few times.....dont ask!! Drain all fluids, even the lower end fluid and spray some WD40 in the cylinders so they dont rust up.Do this soon After fluids are drained and cylinder coated let dry for a day but not longer.Refill all fluids to the right level then hook up the gas hose with fresh gas.Dont install the spark plug yet.Spray a little WD40 in each cylinder to lube just as a precaution and pull the engine over till you get some gas coming out of the cylinders.Put it new gapped plugs and start her up.Thats what I did to mine when it happened and it seamed to work just fine for me.

Spray some foging oil in the cyliners so they don't rust and drain everything and air it out

Re: boat motor submerged
The absolute best thing is to run a submerged 2 cycle engine as soon as possible. Pull the plugs, drain the water out of it, and run it. You don't have to drain the lower unit, it is built to be submerged. You might want to run double oil. If it is an injected oil model, mix some oil in the gasoline also. Run it slow for the first half hour.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
