Lake St. Clair Musky

Unread postby Uncle Lou » Sun Sep 01, 2013 8:29 am

Got a call from a former boss from 15 years ago and good friend saying they may need a fourth to go fish some Musky on Thursday. Well sometimes you can jump on an opportunity and sometimes you can't. Turns out this time I could.

Thursday morning me Tony (former boss man and good friend), Bob, Kurt (who put the trip together), and myself went to meet up with Captain Steve - http://www.bushwackercharters.com/. We met him in the canals in Detroit and headed out. Off to Canadian waters of Lake St. Clair. Lake St. Clair is known as a world class Musky fishery and only being hour or so north, this would be my first at Musky out here.

Captain Steve was running about 13-15 feet of water on the Canadian side of Lake St. Clair and trolls around 3.8 mph with mostly large body baits about 3 feet down or so. A planer board off each side with 2-3 lines each, and a couple of cannonballs alongside the boat .
He showed us a pick of a 55" ~ 40lb. musky from the day before we headed out.

Another shot heading out. Can see the skyline of Detroit, in the Center if you look close.

Tony reeled in the first fish and got the skunk off our back early.

Bob was up next.

Then it was my turn and the third fish came off after a while, so they decided to pity me and give me another turn.
I didn't get a pic of that one as my phone was in my pocket.

And finally in the boat

Bob got another and then they let me up again. Kurt was having fun watching us reel them in, he said he has caught plenty of Musky with Captain Steve.

So here is my second and they said the biggest of the trip, about 18-20 lbs. We didn't measure or weigh any of them and after the fight got them back in the water quickly after a couple of pics. Bob grabbed my phone for a couple pics of the second one I got in.

Calm water and another beautiful day on the water.

Then after the ride in we went downtown for a lunch at Sinbads. Here is a couple tall buildings through the back window of Kurts Car going through downtown Detroit. The second is the Renesaince Center (GM World Headquarters).

Looks like a good day on the water. 8-)
