Re: North Dakota / Devils lake
Ive fished Devils Lake a few times. I love it out there! If your budget has room, get yourself a guide for the first day...1/2 day, whatever. He will get you on the spots and you can fish those the whole time you are there. You will have a blast! Everytime Ive been there we have always fished about 40 ft of water for perch.
Also, for walleyes - a couple hours before dark worked the best for me. 15 ft of water or so...
I cant really provide you info on bait and where they are fishing. (seems to change like the wind). If nothing, call up a few fishing resorts out there, bait shops, or guides to point you in the right direction. Keep us posted!!! Devils Lake has a TON to offer.

Re: North Dakota / Devils lake
Got back from NDakota........AN ENTIRE WEEK.
Outstanding fishing.
Left sat, 6/08 at 1:30 a.m. got pulled over by deputy debbie jusy west of Hwy 83 for tail light out, then in N/West Minnesota blew a trailer tire. In N/Dakota boat tarp blew off and was destroyed.
Hired a guide for Sunday, not good. Young kid trying to make side money and really didnt have a clue where might the fish were and what to use. We made it work though and he did show great effort. We did give him a tip, he tried his best to get us on fish. Later that day when we were done with guide fishing, Dan on eof my friends and found fish with Leeches, Split bobber fishing.
We rented a house , had Dan's boat and my Tahoe. Ate wild turkey chili, deer chops and tenderloins, pean-butter and honey sandwhiches.so the espense was down.
Eevery day we limited out and then some. Ate fish by frying and baking.....awesome...walleyes, northerns, white-bass and some perch.
I have never seen so much flooding, so many farms under water and so much depression in regards to loss of land.
We fished Devils Lake several times , very good facility in the State park, good parking , good docking and excellent fish cleaning facility. We fished several other areas outside the city of Devils Lake, overflow of rivers, etc....did very well.
Some, not all of locals seemed to be rude to outsiders such as us from Wisconsin, seemed to be bothere'd by our presence. Especially in the grocery stores and gas stations. One restraunt we visited treated us extremely well, The Cove.
Overall good time, definately plan on going back with some adjustments......I certainly would suggest to go on this trip, if only the exspense is shared.

Re: North Dakota / Devils lake
Cool trip RR, looks like you guys had some fun.
I use to do a lot of duck hunting in that area, it is scary and amazing to see how the landscape changes over the years. Some of the smaller lakes can jump 10-15 feet in a year, roads we traveled for years would eventually be under water (deep water) or get completely washed out by a fast moving river/flood that was not there the previous year. Haven't been out there in 5 or so years now but a friend who still hunts the area says the water just keep on coming.

Good stuff. Thanks for sharing.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
