I had a friend snap several pics, but for some reason they weren't on the card when I pulled it...

I'll try to make up for it by posting some from tomorrow if I don't get blown off the big water. In the meantime here are a few from the recent past for your viewing pleasure: 8-)

It wouldn't be right if I didn't sneak a few pics in from colder weather- one of my favority times to walleye fish:

Nice fish! What body of water? The walleye fishing here on Winnebago has been phenomenal this year. Cannot wait to get back out.

Saginaw Bay, Lake Huron. The mayflies and midges are hatching like crazy on the Bay right now, the trick is to get them to eat something else.

Great catches there. Even that ring perch is very palatable.

Nice fish porn SB....couple of my buddies have been on the bay recently, said the fishing been real hot.

See the in-line boards in your pictures, are you running a "meat" program? We usually make a couple of trips
to Erie every year, but thinking maybe to the bay instead. Have any suggestions of where to stay and slip
the boat?

I think this is a good year for SagrBay, I'm seeing tons of fish. The nursery of the inner bay is tough, there are so many little guys (13) swimming around its tough to get to the bigger fish. I would give Au Gres serious consideration, they have decent food and lodging there with an eight lane launch. Its a very versatile location, where 30' of walleye water is close to shore and you can hit contour breaks all up and down the coast when you find the depth they are holding. If it warms up a bunch the Charity islands heat up and Au Gres is the place to launch. If the heat sizzles and you are going during the dog days, its a short run up to Tawas where cooler and deeper water yet can be found.

The three primary age classes I'm seeing are the 13"s, the 17-19"s, and the 21-23"s. Yes, I'm running a meat program for numbers especially if I have someone else with me, like to keep them busy. Meat is working great with relatively cool water temps yet at Au Gres, as it continues to heat up the plugs and spoons will come into their own. The locals at Au Gres run 2 oz bottom bouncers with meat all summer and take a bunch of fish. If size is what matters to you I'd go with plugs first followed by spoons.

The fish do not suspend as well at Au Gres as they do in the inner bay, which is why bottom bouncers are so successful. Hot N Tots need to be weighted to get within a few feet of the bottom (or whatever your plug selection is). When the fish do suspend a bit with a hot bite, 2 oz inlines about 55 back work great with meat, or match your plugs / spoons to the upper depth of the suspended fish.

Hope that helps a bit...

Yes, that helps a bunch.

Au Gres seems to be where most everyone fishes, that I hear about anyways. Being on the west side, and fishing Lk. Michigan mostly salmon fish over here. I've run a meat program on Erie a couple of times, but more accustomed to running spoons and plugs. Downriggers, leadcore and copper off boards is the norm, pretty similiar through, being speed and depth control the most important consideration. We run a similiar spoon/plug program on Erie, but more in-lines weights, dipsy's, tru-trac, jet divers and leadcores, just downsize the presentation of spoons and plugs from salmon.

When do you see the bite switching from meat to spoon/plug, time of year? water temp dependant?

Thinking trailering the boat, any thoughts of marinas that I can slip the boat and has accomadations to stay at the marina?

Yes, water temp. dependant for the spoons / plugs typically. Things usually get rollling in June.

I am not familiar with the local marina at all, as I trailer my boat. Let me know when you are going and I may be able to get so good up to date info. for you.

Will do...updated info always helps on where to start, then dial in from there. If your ever interested on a Lk Michigan salmon trips let me know, maybe we could swap a salmon/walleye trip and swap tactics and have some fun.

Appreciate the information.
