If you want a good, reliable scope at a good price I would try a Redfield Revolution. They are made by Leupold now.
You cannot invade mainland America. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

When you say great, does that mean you want to spend a bunch. Check out Swarovsi, ziess, leica. There are a lot of good scopes out there

I have a Redfield that sits atop my 7mm. It has served me well since 1996. Redfield has always been know for a good scope for the price.

I have recently been getting Predator Xtreme magazine. There is so much glass in there it makes my head spin. Pick up the June Issue and take a look.

I suggest pick a price range and figure out what type of ballistic reticle you want. Or maybe you just want standard crosshairs (there are choices there as well).

I dont know the 223 trajectory as well as I know bigger cals, but if you zero for 200 yds you should be a dead on hold to 300 yds. If the 223 is capable of a 300 zero and keep in the vitals for coyote, then you can have a dead on hold to 400.

What I am getting at, unless you plan to shoot 400+ yards you shouldnt need all those confusing extra lines in your scope, especially for quick shooting out to 300 to 400. Not that you cant shoot farther with standard crosshairs.

yeah thats a good point, im looking to spend between 300-500 bucks on a scope. I am new to rifle hunting and only have experience with shotgunning. I was more curious on personal favorites, scopes to stay away from just tips and suggestions. I want to buy a great scope I will not need to replace or upgrade. Either a Nikon, Leupold, or Redfield (made by Leupold). So a single cross hair can be sighted in at 200 yard and be dead on up to 300 without any compensation like aiming x amount of inches high? would i then have to aim low if the target was closer than 150 or 100 yards?

I would recommend the Nikon Coyote Special. this scope is made exclusivley for predator hunting. comes with BDC(ballistic drop compensation) predator reticle. this reticle is made for calibers just like your 223. it provides you with a center aiming ring then bellow there are different horizontal bars for long range reference. so lets say you zero you rifle at 200 yards, any yotes within 200 yds can be shot by simply placing the ring around there chest, say he's 300 yards you would use the first horizontal bar, 350, next bar down,400 and so on.

I use one of these with my ruger 204, and i love it, i have no problem taking down a yote out at 400 yds.

No. Click the link below to see a standard ballistic table for your 223. Bottom chart shows the answer to your question with detail.

I would recommend a Leupold VX1 or VX2 or a Nikon Monarch. And I would get a scope with a 50MM bell, they gather a lot more light for hunting at night or in low light conditions.
