Got my first intentional coyote tonight

Unread postby xpauliber » Sun Mar 08, 2015 7:09 pm

After alot of persistence, I finally was able to call in a coyote tonight and dust him. My buddy went with me and we set his call up at the top of the field and then we headed down the edge of the field about 200 yards and set my call up. We backed up about 50 yards from my call and set up with the wind blowing from the edge into the open field. We were looking down at an inside corner.

We ran distress calls from my call and occasionally would throw in some yips and barks from his up behind us on the hill to try and make it seem like all of the calling wasn't coming from one single spot. We sat for about 30 minutes and for one last ditch effort, we played a setting on my call that was a pack of coyotes attacking a rabbit. My buddy lit up the edge and saw a coyote moving in directly in front of us. We stopped the call and it stopped behind a deadfall. He switched the call to a real quiet distress call and I saw a shadow of the yote in the moonlight circling downwind of the call. He came out into the field and sat down facing us. My buddy hit the light and I dusted him at about 150 yards.

I've shot two other coyotes before but just out of happenstance and being in the right place at the right time. This was the first time that I was able to actually call one in and beat him and his senses. I can certainly see hunting a predator could help hone my skills for hunting bucks.

How do you like my white t-shirt camo job for my gun?
