Yotes and deer

Unread postby exojam » Sat Dec 06, 2014 2:36 pm

So I pulled a camera today at one of the private locations I have permission to hunt and have a few pictures of some nice sized coyotes. I had seen one there before when I pulled in and he was at the same spot I had seen 3 deer the day before.

My question is would it ruin the spot for deer hunting if I go in there and try to kill as many of the yotes as I could get? Thanks.

Are you planning on deer hunting after the yote kill off?
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Yes.

The yote season is right now and than again in Jan-Mar. So it would be quite a few months after hunting for the yotes.

The reason is the yote pictures I pulled today also had deer right in the same spot and they looked pretty big (yotes) and I would love to get some of them out of the picture.

If it were me I think I would wait until I had finished deer hunting the area for the year. I will do some predator hunting after deer season and I also use that time to scout.

Jp,

I would not be actively hunting them during deer season unless one came by, I apologize if I made it sound differently.

The plan would be to hunt them during their other season BUT at the same field/woods I deer hunt.

Sorry Exojam, made more since when I read it again. I say Kill'em I have done this on a couple different places and I don't think it hurt anything. But, I Also don't think we lowered the coyote population in those areas either. It seemed like more just moved in, but it could be different in your area.

Well that is what I hear happens here also, kill some and more move into their place. I would just as many gone as possible.

I think if u went on a killing spree after you were done deer hunting it wouldn't hurt but like you mentioned I think more just move in and take over the area kinda like a dominate buck bed when hes not there the subordinate buck will move in because it is better than what he has for one reason or another

Wait until Jan season, thats when their breeding season is and they are a little....little easier to kill because you can use female coyote vocalizations. If one comes in while I am hunting its going to die as long as I get my part. But I don't call for them at all during deer season,I stay away unless I am hunting deer.

It would only be after deer season unless I see one while deer hunting.

They seem to have a heavy presence in the two main areas I hunt.
