Hope you get a tag and wolf. I hate them. I plan to hunt them someday. Saving preference points until I have time to do so.

I GOT IT!

I got to McKays Hardware in Holly, MI just after 11 am. Straight up noon I was the owner of 1 of 1200 Michigan wolf tags.

They have authorized 43 to be taken, so tagholders will have to call in to see if the quota has been met prior to heading out each day. Season dates are Nov 15-Dec 31

I don't believe fines, just the season closes on the next day. As many know, there are a few extra wolves up there and a few extra wont be bad. This system is very similar to how lions and wolf tags are run out west. Now granted MI has many more hunters than out west, but wolf hunters in MI are limited to the 1200 not 1 million hunters like for deer here.

I don't know why they adopted this outwest type system, but it is proven and I am glad they did that instead of issue a lottery for 43 tags. Many western states like Idaho and MT have not filled quota with unlimited tags for wolves.

1200 don't include the deer hunters that will be out during that wolf season, just saying. :)

Ken, how many deer hunters are in the UP.

I just talked to my friend Dave in Manistique and let him know I got the tag. He has some contacts in the Newberry and Seney areas. I will need all the help I can get.

Lou, I would call the DNR and ask to talk to one or more of the CO's for help. You might also want to contact some foresters.

Good luck Lou. My post was pertaining to those who have been hunting them before this year.

Lance that is good advice to contact COs and foresters. My buddy Dave said the loggers know where the wolves are, but I should contact a CO or two up there as well.

Ken, copy that.
