And how long do you give a spot before moving on?

I spend about 30 minutes. I use a locator call if I don't see anything else and move on. I'll use a cotton tail for about 1min and rest for about 3-4min. I think mixing it up and not using the same routine helps. I hat to educate them.

I usually sit for 30 mins. I will also use a distress call first and then if i dont get a response i will howl. Sometimes you can get a response from ones just sitting back waiting. I would also have to say that i have had more encounters when i let the call run for longer periods of time 10+ mins. Switching back and for between distress calls seems to educate them more than running the same call for a longer periods of time in my experience.

These days you can buy electronic calls that have the call sequence built in. Just hit play, the pauses are built right in.

The electronic stuff comes in handy, but I think you would agree with me that the mouth and hand calls are just as good. More realistic to me....

The e-calls come from a different location than where you are, that can be a very good advantage.

I sit down and wait 5 to 10 minutes. If I'm doing distress I call for 45 seconds very quietly and then I wait 6 minutes. I then call for another 45 seconds, this time a bit louder. Wait 6 more minutes and blow a bit harder on the call for another 45 seconds.I will sit for another 5 to 10 minutes and I leave. I usually hunt 15 to 20 minutes each set. I use a stop watch and do everything exactly the same every time.
