MichiganMike wrote:Leaving stands up in Michigan is illegal, but if it wasn't- I wouldn't leave one up. You take the chance of someone stealing it or hunting out of it. People do leave their stands up though and honestly it doesn't bother me. It just lets me know the areas to avoid and where not to hunt.

I posted this once, with little interest. State Natural Areas, always has been my place. However age now prevents me, to hunt alot of them
Advantage, no parking spots, or lots. Most are wet Nasty, s... holes, great for wildlife and deer. Not set up for nature walks. Wis I think has about 77 of them, they are marked well on the DNR website.
Cons, just plain tough going. I use to scout them after freeze up.
I've checked some of them out and I seem to find more hunter sign on them than other places, usually a camera or a stand right on the private/public line.

Fact is I'm not in good enough shape anymore to haul even a lightweight lone wolf stand three miles into the mountains with me. Just not practical. I hung them before I learned about saddle hunting, and they're hung in places where I never seen human sign. Probably I should just pull them.
For now I'll leave them on the off-chance Boogie will ever hunt the Adirondacks and, in case you come across one of my stands boogie: umadbro?
